Wedged between mainland Europe and the rest of Scandinavia, Denmark is a beautiful land split into three main landmasses – the islands of Zealand and Funen and the peninsula of Jutland.
Wherever you visit in the country, you’ll never be more than 50km from the sea, however most travellers begin their trip exploring Copenhagen. Water runs through the heart of this capital city, with canals splitting the area into numerous small islands and areas, such as Frederiksberg, Freetown Christiania and idyllic Nyhavn. As well as a beautiful old centre, Copenhagen has an amazing array of museums, an energetic nightlife and multiple Michelin-starred restaurants.
Elsewhere in the country, must-visit towns and cities include laidback Aarhus, with its relaxed atmosphere, and Fyn, the island home of Danish author Hans Christian Andersen.
